The U.S. Alpine Ski Team announced key staffing changes in a press release on Wednesday, and two of them will directly impact Edwards skiers River Radamus and Mikaela Shiffrin.

Janne Haarala will join Shiffrin’s team, leaving his previous post as the head women’s tech coach for the Norwegian national team.

“I’m super stoked to be part of the journey with the most successful Alpine skier in the world,” Haarala said in a statement provided by Shiffrin’s publicist, Megan Harrod.

“It was not an easy decision to make a switch but in the end, I met the team already in April, and we have started to work with Mikaela and it met all my expectations and beyond. Mikaela is such a cool personality and I was impressed by her knowledge of skiing and how much she wants to improve on a daily basis.”

“We are so grateful for everything that Ian has done with the men’s World Cup team,” men’s Alpine head coach Mark Tilston said in the release. “His knowledge is invaluable to us and we look forward to collaborating with him as we make this transition.”

Garner coached as an assistant under Forest Carey for six years before being promoted to the Carey was let go after the 2022 season.

Fabien Munier, a former coach with the French Ski Federation, will step in as the new head men’s giant slalom coach. Munier coached world champion and previous overall FIS crystal globe winner Alexis Pinterault. He also worked with the French Europa Cup speed team and World Cup tech teams.

Two other former French Ski Federation coaches — Claude Cretier and Clement Tomamichel — will also join the staff next season. Cretier finished fifth in the 2002 Olympic downhill and coached Pinterault as well as Olympic medalist Victor Muffat-Jeandet. Tomamichel will lead the U.S. men’s Europa Cup teams next year.

“Fabian and Claude’s background with the French Ski Federation shows that both have the experience and drive to make a positive impact on our team,” Tilston stated. “We have a great group of athletes and Fabian and Claude will push our athletes to the next level of competition.”

Tristan Glasse-Davies is also joining the team as the head men’s slalom World Cup coach. Glasse-Davies most recently coached with GB Snowsports as the head men’s slalom coach for Dave Ryding — who has finished eighth in the slalom season standings in two of the last three seasons — Billy Major and Laurie Taylor. Radamus achieved notable successes in slalom last winter, notching a top-20 finish in Adelboden in January.

On the women’s side, Rudi Soulard will replace head tech coach Magnus Andersson, who is stepping down after eight years on the U.S. staff. Soulard was an assistant coach with the tech group last year; he previously was the head slalom coach for the French women’s team. He also was the U.S. head men’s tech coach from 2008-2010, where he shepherded Ted Ligety to two giant slalom crystal globes.

“We are thrilled to have Rudi at the helm of our women’s tech team,” said head women’s coach Paul Kristofic. “We know he will continue to build upon and raise the bar of this talented group of skiers.”

The women’s Europa Cup team will also have a new coach in Miha Kurner, the former program director and U18 women’s coach at Killington Mountain School.
