Vail Comedy Show is back on Thursday, April 17, in Vail Village at The Sebastian and on Friday, April 18, in Eagle at Moe’s Original BBQ. Nashville-based comedian Amber Autry will headline. She is a nationally touring headliner with multiple comedy specials. Dobie Maxwell from Chicago, who has appeared on “The Late Late Show,” will join other special guests and host Mark Masters. Autry answered some questions in advance of her visit.

Have you ever performed in the Vail Valley?

Not in real life but definitely in my dreams. I’ve been googling images of Vail and photoshopping myself skiing with hot, rich people who laugh at all my jokes. Seriously, I am thrilled to be coming back to Colorado and exploring parts of the state I haven’t seen before. I know I’m gonna tear it up comedy-wise and have heard nothing but great things from other comedians who have done the same run of shows. I’ll probably fall in love with Vail and want to move there like the lead singer of Metallica (for real, Google it) but don’t worry locals I won’t stay — skiing (outside of photoshopped images) terrifies me.

Do you have a favorite Colorado comedy memory?

I definitely have a favorite Colorado comedy memory. In 2021 I visited Colorado for the first time after driving out to Provo, Utah, to film my Drybar Comedy special. I was on a high from filming my first special and when we got to Colorado I did a show in Boulder. I was nervous but I crushed the show and the professional photos we got after captured my stage presence really well. During the pandemic, I worked very hard at comedy, so that was a special night and fueled a growing sense of confidence in my talent as a comedian.

What do you know about Vail Comedy Show?

I don’t know much about the Vail Comedy Show other than what I’ve heard from other comedians and that has been all great reviews. Seeing the previous lineups proves that it’s a quality show because I respect the comedians who have headlined before me. I have had a great experience so far with Mark Masters and that to me speaks volumes about what to expect from a show. If there is good communication and I feel well taken care of before I even arrive, I have confidence that the show will be amazing. My experience with the audiences of Colorado has always been great as well so I’m really looking forward to the week of shows.

You live in Nashville but tour nationally. How does Colorado compare to other markets?

I love living in Nashville partly because it’s such a great place to travel from. However, I’ve only been to Colorado for comedy once so I’m looking forward to coming back. I will say there are certain comedy clubs across the country that comedians rave about to each other and Comedy Works in Denver is one of those clubs. Colorado comedy always has a good reputation amongst comedians and that’s a big deal. When I performed in Denver last time I felt welcome, I loved the audience and couldn’t wait to come back. Also, one of my favorite parts about comedy is checking out the area in which I’m performing and Colorado is one of the greatest places to explore. There’s great food, beautiful scenery, and last time I was there I had a weed drink that made me see God, so you can’t go wrong spending time in Colorado.

How would you describe your comedy?

I love hearing how the audience describes my comedy after the show. I’m always getting, “You remind me of my best friend! I have to tell her to come see you.” Or they will gush about my physical comedy and facial expressions saying they don’t see comedy like mine anymore. I’ve also been getting “Where is your Netflix special?” It may sound like I’m boasting, but it’s true. I’m a big proponent in not only accepting praise from others but believing those things about yourself because if you don’t believe in yourself, why do it? I grew up watching Jim Carrey and Raven-Symoné, two very goofy and physical comedians. My comedy is a bit of that: physical, vibrant, and joyful. I share stories from my own life in a way that makes you feel you’re hanging with your best friend.
