AvonLIVE! concert lineup announced

Free concerts in Nottingham Park run from June 12 to Aug. 28

The town of Avon hosts AvonLIVE!, a free summer concert series on Wednesdays at Harry A. Nottingham Park.

After a winter hiatus, Avon’s beloved weekly summer concert series is back with a bang, showcasing an array of award-winning nationally touring, regional and local talent.

The  concert series at the Avon Pavilion, located in Harry A Nottingham Park remains free for all to enjoy and promises entertainment for every generation. Attendees can indulge in delicious food offerings and a selection of craft brews, chilled wines, refreshing cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase at the Hahnewald Bar. The excitement takes place on Wednesdays throughout the summer with the first concert being held on June 12 featuring the Battle of the Bands starting at 5:30 p.m.

Pink Talking Fish is a hybrid tribute fusion act that takes the music from three of the world’s most beloved bands and creates a special treat for fans of the music. Pink Floyd, Talking Heads and Phish are all more than just bands… they are a phenomenon. Their creations have artistically inspired people and their mind-blowing live performances have brought people together to form a special sense of community around the love for their favorite band.

Dragondeer has conjured the rhythm spirits to concoct a blend of psychedelic blues, retro funk, soul, and rock-n-roll into a genre blur that’s aim is to speak to souls and keep the body moving. Dragondeer has shared the stage with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Futurebirds, Neal Francis, Young Gun Silver Fox, Marcus King, The Revivalists, The Steve Miller Band, Shakey Graves, Dumpstaphunk and Drive By Truckers.

He’s collaborated with artists as diverse as Trombone Shorty, Galactic, Steel Pulse, Tall Heights, Martin Sexton, Anders Osborne, and George Porter, Jr; shared bills with the likes of Tedeschi Trucks Band, Ani DiFranco, Todd Snider, The Wood Brothers, Rodrigo y Gabriela, and Mavis Staples; and racked up more than 150 million streams on Spotify alone.

The Lil Smokies have earned a reputation as one of the most electrifying acts in modern American roots music thanks to their exhilarating live show and critically acclaimed studio output. Since performing on the streets of Missoula, Montana, where the group got its start busking back in 2009, the band has performed everywhere from Red Rocks to The Rialto and captivated festival audiences at Telluride, High Sierra, LOCKN’, Freshgrass, FloydFest and countless more.

Dumpstaphunk stands out amongst New Orleans’ best, cementing themselves as one of the funkiest bands ever to arise from the Crescent City. Born on the Jazz & Heritage Festival Stage, and descended from Neville and Meters family bloodlines, these soldiers of funk ignite a deep, gritty groove that dares listeners not to move. Their performances combine ingenious musicianship through complex funk, rock and jazz arrangements accompanied by soulful melodies and Big Easy traditions.  

August 14:  with opener  

Building on the classic Tulsa Sound pioneered by the likes of J.J. Cale and Leon Russell, Paul Benjaman expands their groove-based genre to include most styles of American music with a strong dose of guitar power. Benjamin has played with a variety of artists including George Porter Junior (The Meters), John Densmore (The Doors), Kris Kristofferson, Rita Coolidge, Gary Busey and many more. He’s also appeared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon as a sideman for the T Bone Burnett-produced Secret Sisters. 

August 21:  with opener  

Cimafunk is a Grammy-nominated, Afro-Cuban rock star. His name refers to his heritage known as a “cimarron,” Cubans of African descent who resisted and escaped slavery, as well as to the essence of his music that aims to subvert classical Cuban Rhythms with innovative mixes of funk, Afrobeat and hip hop. His live show is a celebration of groove and an unforgettable sonic and bodily experience.

August 28:  with opener 

Magic Beans have a passion for music that is as infectious as their songs, both of which have gained them national notoriety in a short time. The band honors the wide diaspora of American music by incorporating the flavors of funk, R’n’B, rock, soul and even some country influence into a complete package that is noticeably their own. The Beans have extensively toured their analog dance music and neo-jam across the whole country, earning them an expansive fan base.
